Wakatipu Joinery presents Gripdeck in a Queenstown Kitchen.
Plymasters has a range of quality transport plywood featuring Gripdeck Duo, Euro Gripdeck and a supersize Gripdeck. It is an anti-slip product with a euro birch core generally used for ute and trailer decks as it has a non-slip surface. Additionally, the Gripdeck material offers high-wear resistance with fantastic visual appeal.
Tony Emanuel from Wakatipu Joinery has cleverly constructed a kitchen in Queenstown in a brand-new build featuring Euro Gripdeck in the construction of the kitchen cabinetry. This is the first time Plymasters has seen this product used as an interior material and thinks it is a very clever use of the product. Tony likes to push the boat out when it comes to designing projects and using raw materials and plywood (and it’s different finishes) is where Wakatipu Joinery come into their own. “I really think most people could have a much more enjoyable kitchen and living space with a bit of creativity so in turn I try to push people’s ideas when designing.” Tony says.
As well as the kitchen featuring the Gripdeck, the TV shelf and a bench seat is also made out of Euro Gripdeck, tying in the lounge to the kitchen. Using this material in the home has created a warm affect for Wakatipu Joinery’s clients, making this new build seem less sterile and more homely.
Tony first used this material in a build 15 years ago, to create an industrial look and he presented the smooth side of the gripdeck but on this project featured, he swayed the clients to use the rough edge of the Gripdeck creating a layer of texture to the cabinetry. Tony finished off the material with a light sand taking off the sharp edges to create a smoother and interesting texture to the end project.
