This century old villa in rural Upper Hutt underwent a gigantic overhaul once discovered by it’s character-loving clients. A painstaking search commenced, country-wide, to find just the right coloured feature panes of glass in keeping with the original look. A retired craftsman on the isolated West Coast of the South Island was also brought on board to recreate the delicate and intricate fretwork to decorate and restore the villa. Period doors and windows appropriate to the style and age of the villa were tracked down with much searching (two years worth!) but make all the difference to the completed project. This grand old dame has been reinstated to her former glory and will go on to see another 100 years in the future.

About the
Professional

It’s a long way from Denmark to New Zealand but Founding Director and Architect Mona Quinn of Callidus Architects has successfully made the leap bringing with her a love of heritage buildings and character homes. Having a Scandinavian heritage and a New Zealand can-do attitude provides a practical approach to design and construction. This love of older buildings and breathing new life into them has created a niche market for Callidus Architects who specialise in alterations and additions to heritage architecture projects. Bringing these buildings up to modern day living and retaining their character and street appeal for these owners is what Callidus Architects are experienced in and enjoy doing.

The team at Callidus Architects, can provide total project services from initial concepts through to construction drawings, administration of the job onsite, landscaping and interior design. We have the experience to create lovable, usable environments while ensuring the on-going use of character and heritage buildings.

At ArchiPro we recognise and acknowledge the existing, original and ancient connection Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have to the lands and waterways across the Australian continent. We pay our respects to the elders past and present. We commit to working together to build a prosperous and inclusive Australia.
