When specialist IT security company ZX Security was ready for new premises, they enlisted the local Wellington branch of design & build firm Catalyst Group to create an environment that expressed their values and personality.

ZX Security has featured among the top 40 in Deloitte’s Fast 50, the annual awards that recognise and celebrate New Zealand’s fastest-growing businesses. As a progressive business, their brief to Drew Blair – lead designer on the project at Catalyst – was to create a space full of colour that tells the story of who they are, building on a sense of their professionalism and trust as well as being a destination that’s a great place to hang out. ZX and Catalyst were keen to feature the fantastic Lambton Quay harbour view and a plethora of local, eye-catching art.

For Catalyst, a client willing to take risks, allowing free reign to design interesting spaces, was a breath of fresh air.

The design team worked with colour-blocking, using a saturation of tones of similar colour in each meeting space. The textures of lush velvet draperies and plush soft flooring established an up-market feel.

Drew came to Heritage Carpets having already seen Gleam tiles by modulyss, earmarking them in his mind for the right project. The palette in the range, the soft shimmer in a high-performance commercial carpet tile, with cut pile for a velvet-luxe look and feel, matched the brief perfectly. It was less than three weeks between requesting samples and the decision to select multiple Gleam colours, plus a contrast in texture with Opposite mini-tuft carpet tiles, also from modulyss, for spaces other than the cocoon-like meeting rooms.

The resulting space is richly textured, full of personality, and a great example of what collaboration and trust in the design process can deliver.
