DecoClad® Tested and Rated to BAL 40

For projects in bushfire-prone areas, façade specification must reconcile design intent with clearly documented performance requirements. DecoClad®, DECO Australia’s solid aluminium cladding system, has been independently evaluated and deemed suitable for use in BAL 40 applications when installed in accordance with the DecoClad® BAL 40 Installation Guide.

Testing was undertaken by Ignis Labs in New South Wales to AS 1530.8.1, the Australian Standard used to assess building materials exposed to simulated bushfire conditions.
BAL 40 represents exposure to high levels of radiant heat, increased ember attack and burning debris, making system selection and installation detailing critical to the performance of the external envelope.
The BAL 40 evaluation applies across the DecoClad® profile range, allowing architects to select from multiple board expressions and finishes while maintaining a consistent compliance pathway. DecoClad® has also been tested to AS 1530.1, AS 1530.3 and AS 1530.4, achieving an FRL of -/30/30 when installed in accordance with the relevant system requirements.
With a non-combustible aluminium substrate, low-maintenance finish options and documented installation guidance, DecoClad® enables architects to pursue durable, contemporary façades in bushfire-prone settings without reducing the material palette to purely utilitarian choices. Project teams should review the current installation guide and supporting technical documentation as part of specification and detailing.
