Laidback Lee Design

What’s your professional background and how has it influenced your work today?

I’ve always been drawn to creativity and problem-solving, which naturally led me into interior design. Over the years, I’ve developed a hands-on approach, blending architecture, styling, and sourcing to create spaces that feel both layered and personal. My background has taught me to balance beauty with functionality and more namely design that’s effortless, livable, and curated down to the smallest detail.

When did you first develop an interest in interior design and styling?

I’ve loved interiors for as long as I can remember, but it really clicked for me in my early career when I realised the power of spaces to influence mood and lifestyle. I was that child that would redecorate her room, and parents home. So it is second nature to redesign any space that I am in!
From sourcing unique pieces to layering textures and colours, I fell in love with creating homes that feel personal, welcoming, and a little unexpected.

Describe your business’ style and customer.

Laidback Lee Design is all about effortless sophistication with a relaxed, layered feel. We mix textures, finishes, and one-of-a-kind pieces to create interiors that are beautiful yet approachable. Our customer values thoughtful design and loves spaces that feel curated without being fussy. They want their homes to reflect personality, comfort, and style all at once.

What’s your favourite GlobeWest piece/collection and why?

I’m drawn to GlobeWest Pebble and Puddle ranges - because they are luxurious yet understated. Their attention to detail and timeless design perfectly complements the layered, textured aesthetic I love to create in my projects.

What interior staple could you not live without?
A beautifully layered rug. It instantly warms a space, adds texture, and ties together furniture and decor. It’s a simple thing that elevates every room.

Top three styling tips to elevate your home:

Layer textures and materials – Mix velvet, linen, timber, metal, and ceramics to create depth and interest.

Invest in statement pieces – A standout bedhead, artwork, or light fixture can define the entire room

Edit with intention – Every item should have purpose or meaning; less really can be more if curated thoughtfully.

What’s your dream project?

I love projects that allow me to blend interiors, architecture, and one-of-a-kind pieces. Particularly family homes that need to be both stylish and functional. Any project where I can inject personality while creating a relaxed, elevated aesthetic feels like a dream.

What’s next for Laidback Lee Design?

We’re expanding our range of signature pieces and styling services, and I’m particularly excited about bringing more made-to-order items to life that reflect our Laidback Lee Design ethos. We are also embarking on a large multi-res project as well as my own studio space. So many things in the works!
