We’ve all heard the saying don’t save the ‘good’ tableware for a special occasion. And that’s exactly what The Studio of Tableware encourages – instead, use it to make every occasion special. When choosing dinnerware, cutlery and glassware with intention, you can curate a collection of tableware that feels and looks right for every occasion.
“Invest in beautiful pieces for everyday use. Enjoyment from quality products should be everyday – not just special occasions. With quality products that are also functional, this is possible to do,” shares Sarah Mabin, Director at The Studio of Tableware.
A focus on timelessness
Bringing the best the world has to offer in tableware to New Zealand, the brands in The Studio of Tableware’s collection are well-designed and high quality. Many are renowned heritage European brands, informed by generations of experience in perfecting their craft.
“Quality products from quality brands stand the test of time,” says Sarah. “They are made with good design, exceptional quality and enduring functionality.”
When searching for elevated, everyday entertaining pieces, a good rule of thumb is that less is more. “Avoid seasonal, cheap and cheerful products. While they look fun, they tend to not stand up with frequent use and are almost always short-lived, so ongoing supply and expansion of your collection can be limited.”
“Choose functional pieces that can be used from breakfast to dinner, and everything in between – it’s all about choosing quality you can enjoy for every meal.”
Investing in quality, versatile pieces
With hundreds of products from brands exclusive to The Studio of Tableware, including Christofle, Bernardaud, Sambonet, Cutipol, Rosle, and Paderno, alongside other brands such as WMF, Denby, Rosenthal, Iittala, Riedel, and Spiegelau, there is certainly plenty of choice. However, selecting styles that suit your space and lifestyle is key to gathering a collection that will elevate every occasion.
“Be selective in the pieces you need. With good design, you can utilise minimal pieces to add function to the table setting,” says Sarah.
“Choose functional pieces that can be used from breakfast to dinner, and everything in between – it’s all about choosing quality you can enjoy for every meal.”
A great way to achieve this is with a combination of plates and bowls where colour sets allow you to choose a single colour or mix and match. Or, for a simplified approach, elegantly-shaped, well-made white dinnerware is always in constant demand and can be elevated by adding coloured accessories to change the table up for any occasion.
Serving pieces such as large shallow dishes have also become popular to serve mains directly at the table – a perfect way to showcase every ingredient.
Cutlery is also following the ‘less is more’ approach.
“These are well-designed, minimal pieces, functional in size and shape and able to go straight in the dishwasher,” says Sarah. “With over 120 patterns on display in stainless steel, PVD finishes, resin handles and silver, we have the largest range of quality cutlery in New Zealand.”
With a showroom where you can feel the products, mix pieces together and come up with a combination that suits your needs and design aesthetic, The Studio of Tableware is a go-to destination for both homeowners and designers.
“We’re always here to help customers find products that fit into their lifestyles and the design aesthetic of their project. We can cater for the casual entertainer to the stylist entertainer and all those in between.”
