In a recent webinar hosted by ArchiPro, in conjunction with PeterFell, the use of coloured concrete in three significant architectural homes was explored. Here, the architects explain how colour in concrete creates opportunity for innovation in their architecture.
The Clifftops home by Bossley Architects connects beautifully to its site, through a sculptural beauty expressed through dyed white concrete forms.
The Superwhite colour oxide frome PeterFell created a creamy white when mixed with standard aggregate, which juxtaposes beautifully against the timber fins on the upper level of Clifftops house.
The textured white concrete walls were the perfect backdrop for the client's impressive art collection.
The angles of a 'slow' stair juxtapose beautifully against the curves of the Superwhite internal concrete walls.
A striking sculptural element in white concrete provides a perfectly serene spot to sit and take off your shoes at the entrance of Clifftops house.
The 651 oxide colours the standard aggregate concrete to a soothing pale grey in the spectacular Concrete Copper house in Christchurch.
The pale grey coloured concrete tilt slab walls and ceilings complement the copper roof perfectly.
The in-situ concrete ceiling in this living space is perfectly colour-matched to the tilt panel walls, using PeterFell 651 oxide.
This Christchurch home overlooking the sea is constructed entirely in in-situ concrete due to access issues to the site.
The dramatic gloss black concrete floors throughout were achieved with PeterFell oxide 699, and finished in a gloss sealer.
The outdoor fireplace mantel and hearth are coloured the same gloss black as the floors, but using 'natural' and acrylic sealers gives them an entirely different look.
