Renowned for its proven durability and performance, for over 40 years, COLORSTEEL® has been producing quality roofing solutions in New Zealand, for New Zealand. But driven by a desire to create better, stronger, and more beautiful every day, we are constantly building on our foundation of practical knowledge, experience and understanding to think differently and deliver intelligent solutions for real applications.
We are excited to announce the Next Generation of COLORSTEEL® - COLORSTEEL MAXAM®, which brings together the outstanding quality and consistency COLORSTEEL® is known for, with game changing ACTIVATE™ technology, designed to deliver enhanced corrosion resistance COLORSTEEL MAXAM® is a new single product solution, replacing COLORSTEEL ENDURA® and MAXX®, suitable for most of New Zealand’s environmental conditions, providing exceptional durability and corrosion protection.
From alpine regions to urban city centres, no guessing, no confusion, no wrong choices, just COLORSTEEL MAXAM®, with COLORSTEEL ALTIMATE® the best choice for New Zealand’s most severe environmental conditions.
Enhanced Durability with ACTIVATE™ Technology.
So, what exactly is ACTIVATE™ technology?
As a simple description, currently COLORSTEEL® is made up of a steel substrate with an Aluminium Zinc (AZ) metallic alloy coating, before the paint system is applied. Patent protected ACTIVATE™ Technology introduces to COLORSTEEL® a new Aluminium, Zinc & Magnesium (AM) metallic coating. Unlike traditional AZ coatings, which offer robust protection, the addition of magnesium in the AM coating significantly assists in slowing down corrosion, extending the corrosion to perforation lifespan of COLORSTEEL®. ACTIVATE™ technology was specifically designed to deliver enhanced corrosion resistance.
Although AM metallic alloy coatings have been available internationally for a while, not all AM coatings are made the same way. The magic in our ACTIVATE™ technology is around the strategic positioning of the magnesium compounds at the top and bottom of the coating, to deliver enhanced corrosion resistance, enabling a sizeable step change in the warranties offered, now up to 50 years.
Longer Warranties for Peace of Mind
We understand that confidence in product longevity is an important consideration when choosing products. Our new single substrate solution COLORSTEEL MAXAM® offers significantly improved warranties versus COLORSTEEL ENDURA & MAXX® with a headline corrosion to perforation warranty in mild environments of up to 50 years with increases across all environmental categories. Commercial warranties are now aligned to Residential warranties providing project owners with great peace of mind in their product selection no matter the usage.
Sustainability at Its Core
New Zealand Steel’s commitment to sustainability is evident in the recent substantial investment in an Electric Arc Furnace, due to be operation in early 2026, that will drastically reduce carbon emissions, the country’s biggest decarbonisation effort to date. COLORSTEEL MAXAM® further builds our sustainability credentials through its enhanced corrosion performance allowing a sizable step change in corrosion and perforation warranty of up to 50 years, greatly improving the design life of COLORSTEEL® roofing and cladding.
A Single Solution for New Zealand’s Diverse Environments
Replacing both COLORSTEEL ENDURA & MAXX®, one of the standout features of COLORSTEEL MAXAM® is its versatility. Whether your project is on the coast, inland, in a geothermal area, or in an industrial environment, COLORSTEEL MAXAM® is designed to perform exceptionally well across all these conditions. This simplifies the selection process, ensuring you have a reliable, high-performance solution without the guesswork. We will continue to offer COLORSTEEL ALTIMATE® for our Extremely Severe environments, and DRIDEX® will be available on both MAXAM® and ALTIMATE®.
