While ‘timeless’ is often equated to a lack of ageing, Casa62 takes a different approach, utilising materials that show their age over time and look all the more beautiful for it.

The result of over three decades of experience in creating residences that balance beauty with functionality, Casa62 was conceived by Stonnington Group co-directors Enzo Campus and Attila Csaplar. An expression of the laidback European lifestyle and aesthetic, Casa62 by Stonnington takes a timeless approach to design, prioritising simple forms, natural materials and beautiful gardens.

A contemporary take on laidback European design, Casa62 homes connect with their location and the residents within, responding to their surroundings while maintaining a distinct aesthetic. Eschewing ephemeral fashions and trends in favour of timeless design, Casa62 homes are designed to appeal to all the senses, maturing with time and experience. While ‘timeless’ is often equated to a lack of ageing, Casa62 takes a different approach, utilising materials that show their age over time and look all the more beautiful for it.

Thoughtful materiality

A careful selection of materials is key to designing a home that ages gracefully. Natural materials close to their original states such as stone and wood evoke a sense of timelessness as they wear and patina over time.

“Natural stone has a depth that adds life,” Enzo tells ArchiPro. “A material that has formed over hundreds of thousands of years in the earth cannot be replicated; each slab is completely unique with its own character.”

Oak is also a particular favourite at Casa62 for its beautiful grain structure that is enhanced when stained, but also works well with a natural wax or oil finish.

Strength in simplicity

While not minimalist, Casa62 focuses on simple forms and a reduction of materials. The Casa62 Studio showcases the warmth that can be evoked through straightforward silhouettes and natural materials. Hand-finished polished plaster is accented with American oak beams, chosen for both its characteristic graining and its ability to be repaired and maintained for years to come.

“Hand finishes provide a beautiful irregularity that adds warmth to a space,” says Attila. “We want people to walk through our homes and feel as though they want to reach out and touch a textured render or stone benchtop.”

An arched fireplace makes for a striking focal point, while touches of greenery represent the Casa62 approach to landscaping and beautiful gardens.

Responsive design

Homes with timeless design are often grounded in a sense of belonging, responding to their surroundings through considered forms and a material palette selected with both form and climate in mind. At Casa Sardina, located on the rocky foothills of Costa Smeralda, landscaping blends with architecture. Concrete, stone and oak take centre stage, defined by their ability to develop character with age. Pared back landscaping seamlessly merges with the existing vegetation, while the open floorplan draws inspiration from Mediterranean villa-style living. Thoughtful design lends the home a sense of permanence within the Sardinian landscape, resulting in a residence that is at one with its surroundings.
