The essence of design: these wood fires redefine spaces

Modern and stylish, Yunca fireplaces are more than just a heater. Beyond providing much-needed warmth to Kiwi homes, as the manufacturer has been for decades, the local brand is also focused on crafting designs that elevate any room they sit in.

“We look at the style of the fireplace and what size home we want it to heat up. We consider the total design as we go,” says Yunca’s head of tech, Gavin Edwards. “Then there is also the ease of use – the practicality of it. It’s not just about building a box and hoping that it works.

“A lot goes into designing each fireplace even before they go for testing. We run preliminary tests in Invercargill, then they are sent to the lab for testing in Australia. There are also guidelines we have to work to; these are for New Zealand’s national environmental standards.”

The development and testing process involved in each design is rigorous – the result being quality fireplaces such as the Olli Wood Burner and the Tommi Wood Burner.

“Both of these fires have a heat exchange system, which is a totally different concept to any other wood fire on the market,” says Edwards.

Redefining spaces with warmth, style and a sense of community

The Ollie Wood Burner

Part of the experience wood-burning fireplaces bring to the home is their ambience – the captivating, gleaming flames that roar within.

Beautifully designed, the Olli Wood Burner allows full viewing of the flickering flames with its panoramic glass. Particularly popular in modern new home builds with large open-plan living spaces, this Yunca fire features the latest in wood-burning technology to ensure heat spreads throughout the home – up to 250sqm – as fast as possible.

The Olli will heat homes up to 250sqm with ease and is recommended to be used alongside a heat transfer kit for a complete home heating solution.

The Tommi Wood Burner

With the highest heat output of the Yunca range for heating homes of up to 300sqm, the Tommi Wood Burner also captures every flame flicker – creating an ambience only wood burners can truly provide.

The drop-down door accommodates larger logs and its thermostatically-controlled fan ensures fast and efficient heating.

It’s an elegant addition to any home or commercial space.

The drop-down door and large firebox design accommodates larger logs, giving longer burn times.

Monte Wood Burner

In winter months, a wood-burning fireplace is perfect to gather around with the family. The Monte Wood Burner brings another level to this – its modern design is combined with a convenient cooktop.

The large glass window provides a mesmerising view of the flames, and the cooktop means dinner can be kept warm without leaving the room.

Outdoor fires perfect for the Kiwi lifestyle

The idea of blending form and function has also seen Yunca introduce two outdoor fireplaces that can be used for cooking.

“A lot of people will sit outside in the winter with a big fire raging and might enjoy a wine and decide to cook something on our outdoor fires before the night is over,” says Edwards. “It’s a big thing now – outdoor areas are only becoming more and more popular.”

The Denva is perfect for year-round entertaining.

Fireplaces such as the Denva Freestanding Outdoor Fire Barbecue and its smaller version, the Zara, take outdoor spaces to the next level.

A freestanding outdoor unit designed to bring ambience and heat to any outdoor entertaining area, the Denva can be enjoyed year-round. Featuring barbecue-style cooking with a hot plate and grill, it’s a stylish way to bring family and friends together outdoors.

“It’s a Kiwi thing,” says Edwards. “Especially in the summertime – you don’t cook inside, you always use the barbecue.”

Both the Denva and the Zara have superior heat output and a stunning corten finish to complement the rest of the landscaping or to bring a ‘wow-factor’ to the garden.

“It’s important to select a fireplace that heats what you need it to heat, or for outdoor fires, does what you want it to do. Select a fireplace that is built correctly and isn’t going to cost you in the future, and one you can get spare parts for. We’ve got all of that covered at Yunca, and even have fireplaces in service that are 45 years old.

“We also have a technical division team and can help designers and architects with any questions they may have.”
