Thousands of years ago, the Chinese hung rice paper decorated with delicate designs, but wallpaper wasn’t adapted by Europeans until early in the 15th and 16th centuries.
At this time, wallpaper imitated fabric designs, with the patterns and colour being carefully applied by hand. A time-consuming and painstaking artform indeed!
