Ever notice where the best DIY ideas pop up?

(Hint: it’s almost never when you’re sitting at the workbench.)

You can stare at a pile of timber for an hour—tools ready, music on, plans open—just waiting for inspiration to hit.

And… nothing. Not even a spark.

But then out of nowhere, it happens:

You walk past an old house and spot a weathered window frame…
You’re scrolling late at night, and a random shelf design stops your mid-thumb…
You see someone’s “junk” pile on the curb and suddenly your brain goes, “Wait. I can make something with that.”

It’s like DIY ideas love sneaking up on you when you’re not trying.

Creativity Shows Up in the Wild

That’s the fun part; your next favourite project might come from the most unexpected corner of your day.

And because these ideas tend to appear like ninja thoughts, I’ve made a habit of keeping what I call my “inspiration stash”:

📸 Random photos
📝 Quick sketches
💬 One-sentence notes
🎨 Color combos from places I didn’t expect

It’s not pretty.
Not organized.
Not curated.

But it’s a treasure chest I can dip into anytime I’m ready to create.

Don’t Let the Spark Slip Away

Because here’s the thing: ideas are slippery.
If you don’t catch them, they disappear faster than a good piece of timber on sale. 😅

So maybe this is your sign to start keeping your own messy little inspiration stash too.
Nothing fancy, just whatever helps you save those random flashes of genius before they fade.

You never know…
One of those tiny ideas might turn into the next project you’re proud to show off.
