Accoya is the world's leading high-technology wood. It exceeds the performance, durability and stability of the very best tropical hardwoods.
Accoya is New Zealand grown Radiata Pine which has undergone a propriety acetylation process to produce a revolutionary timber product. This acetylation process alters the physical properties of the wood by transforming free hydroxyl groups (molecules that readily absorb and release moisture) in the timber into acetyl groups. The process is done at a purpose-built facility in The Netherlands. The result is a durable, stable timber that equals or surpasses the leading timbers. Better still, the whole process does not add any toxic chemicals. Accoya® wood is Class 1 durable ( 50 years above ground, 25 years in-ground), which is comparable or better than the durability of hardwoods such as Jarrah, Rosewood and Teak. Plus Accoya wood is non-toxic and doesn't leech harmful chemicals. Accoya® wood is also FSC certified and has class leading environmental credentials such as Cradle to Cradle™ Gold certification by the highly prestigious McDonough Braungart Design Chemistry (MBDC) organization.
Accoya Weatherboards
Provided it is installed and maintained in accordance with the ITI Timspec installation specifications, Accoya is warranted against undue movement (including shrinkage, swelling, cupping etc.) for 50 years above ground and 25 years in ground.
“The Accoya bevel-back weatherboards provided an ideal solution for this beachfront home. The stability of the product provided great peace of mind regarding durability and performance while the ability to apply dark colours provided excellent design freedom. The coastal tradition of weatherboard cladding has been maintained while allowing the flexibility of a modern form and aesthetic.” - TREVOR WILSON, ARCreate
Dark Colours
There is no restriction on LRV. Accoya is the only timber that we would recommend using dark colours. Please note, Radiata pine is not suitable; and although Western Red Cedar is more stable than Pine, it is still not recommended for use with darker colours.
Profiles
Accoya is available in multiple style weatherboards such as bevel back, rusticated, vertical shiplap and custom profiles on request.
