Natural stone at its most natural. Generally (but not always) made from slate, split into naturally occurring pieces in a range of sizes – large, small and everything in between. Crazy paving (sometimes referred to as Flagstones) is irregular-shaped and sized pieces of stone that can be used for flooring and walling. Along with the shape, there is a variation in colour and texture that only comes with natural stone.

Once laid, the finished look is in the name – ‘crazy’, non-uniform, random, unconventional. No two surface areas laid with crazy paving will ever look the same.

Suitable for both indoor and outdoor applications, the variability makes it a great option for working with curves or non-symmetrical spaces. The contrast it provides to otherwise linear structures can also be quite striking. And the textured surface of the stone makes it ideal as an outdoor paver.

Recommended to be laid by an experienced stonemason for the best result.

About the
Seller

The home of natural NZ stone.

The country's most extensive range of natural stone — sourced from across Aotearoa, crafted into claddings and custom features. If you're thinking NZ stone, you're in the right place.

Formed under pressure and shaped by time, New Zealand stone holds the memory of its landscape — literally. The fossils, the veining, the texture — the story of this land is written into every piece.

With nearly two decades of experience, natural stone holds few surprises for us — it's hard-won knowledge and we share it freely. Every project is backed by our technical documentation, developed to support the consenting process and take the complexity out of specification.
