Builde co-founders John Athanasiou and Mark Rechichi have a long-standing personal and professional partnership, stemming from their days as students at Swinburne University, where they both completed a Bachelor of Technology in Building Surveying.  

After graduating, John and Mark commenced their careers in the building surveying field, gaining valuable experience as Registered Building Practitioners at various firms. 

In 2007, they formed their own business on the back of the expertise and skills they had developed over their careers. Working together meant that their company was built on strong foundations of trust and competence, and they take pride in the work that comes out of a positive and collaborative working environment. 

These values have been adopted as part of the company culture. With a strong reputation for excellence and a mission to deliver exceptional service to their clients, John and Mark have developed Builde into the company it is today.

Since embarking on his career as a building surveyor nearly 20 years ago, John has acquired extensive industry experience and knowledge, applying this across both domestic and commercial projects.

John’s practical solution-based approach to building surveying is augmented by his Domestic Builder-Unlimited registration, which he acquired in 2009.  John is a passionate industry advocate who values maintaining positive peer and client relationships.

Mark Rechichi

Mark boasts nearly 20 years of experience in the building surveying industry. After attaining his Bachelor of Technology in Building Surveying at Swinburne University in 2003, he then went on to gain valuable experience working at various private practices.

Over the course of his career, Mark has been active in continuing his professional growth, including having studied a Diploma in Access Consulting.  Mark is committed to broadening awareness of the building surveying industry through collaboration with his colleagues in the profession.

BUILDING PERMIT
A building permit is a written approval issued by a Registered Building Surveyor to certify that the documentation for proposed building works complies with the requirements of the National Construction Code, Building Act and Building Regulations. Once a building permit is issued, building works can commence and proceed in accordance with the approved plans, specifications and other relevant documentation.

MANDATORY BUILDING INSPECTIONS
Mandatory inspections are required to be undertaken throughout the construction process. The required mandatory inspections will be listed on your Building Permit. At the completion of each mandatory stage, you will need to book an inspection directly via our office and obtain an inspection approval prior to progressing further with the works.

CERTIFICATE OF FINAL INSPECTION
A certificate of final inspection is a statutory document issued under the Building Act and the Building Regulations.

A certificate of final inspection is issued by a building surveyor for extensions, alterations or building works to existing buildings (including houses) that do not require the issuing of an occupancy permit.

The need for a certificate of final inspection will be indicated on your building permit.

OCCUPANCY PERMITS
Occupancy permits are documents that signify that a building surveyor is satisfied and has approved your building as being suitable for occupation.

The Building Act requires the issuance of an occupancy permit prior to the occupation of a new building.

REGULATORY CONSULTING SERVICES
Given our extensive experience in all facets of construction, Builde can be engaged early in the design stage of your development to address and advise on compliance matters.

SUBDIVISION STATEMENTS 
(REGULATION 231)
Our service may extend to assist with proposed subdivisions for existing or proposed buildings in accordance with Regulation 231. Whereby each building is evaluated for structural adequacy, occupant health and amenity, as well as reasonable provisions for preventing fire spread to or from adjacent buildings.
