I grew up on a farm near Pio Pio, a small town in the King Country.  Growing up rurally instilled a hard work ethic in me and also taught me a large range of practical skills.  Spending a lot of time in the bush as a kid saw me develop a close affinity to, and respect for, New Zealand’s beautiful natural environment.

In 2002, keen for some adventure, I headed overseas, where I spent seven years working as a project manager on fencing contracts in Australia and the UK. 

After meeting my Scottish wife, Cat, in the UK, we decided to move back to New Zealand to take on a new challenge. I was keen to upskill and learn a new trade that would put my practical skills and project management experience to good use. After settling on Auckland’s North Shore, I embarked on a building apprenticeship and took on various roles as a foreman. I also became a Licensed Building Practitioner.

We started Craft Homes Ltd in 2015  to further develop my passion for building sustainable homes with the highest quality workmanship.

Since then we have grown both our business and our family, with the welcome addition of our young son, Lachie.  Becoming a family man has cemented for me the importance of creating sustainable, healthy and functional family homes.

My team and I place huge importance on working with our clients to accommodate their new build or renovation project around busy family life.  This includes choosing only a select few professional subcontractors with whom I have a high degree of trust.

Through Craft Homes’ affiliation with The New Zealand Green Building Council and the Homestar® rating system, we are proud to offer our clients the opportunity to enjoy a more sustainable home and contribute to New Zealand’s sustainable building movement.

The first step is to get in touch with us to arrange a time for your free, no-obligation meeting. We will send you a qucik questionnaire to complete and will discuss your answers with you when we meet. Our director, Toby, will be there on-site to chat through your ideas.

Plans & Preliminary Estimate

If you're not sure where to start, we can recommend a reputable architect and work together as a team to craft a plan that suits your needs and budget. Once the plan is complete, our trusted subcontractors and quantity surveyor can orivude you with an initial cost estimate. Once you've accepted the estimate, your architect can lodge your plans with the local building authorities. 

Final Quote & Pricing Structure

After receiving the final consented plans, we will provide you with a final quote or estimate. At this point you will be able to choose between a 'Fixed Price' or a 'Cost Plus Margin' pricing plan. For more information on these plans, please see our FAQs section, or contact our team. 

Contract & Dual Guarantee

At this stage, we will present you and your family with a comprehensive contract alongsde a 10 year Halo Guarantee and our very own Craft Homes Guarantee to ensure piece of mind. 

Construction

Once your project is underway, we will schedule regular meetings on site to discuss progress. We will liase with the architect and relevant subcontractors and suppliers and we will provide online tracking of your project. Essentially, we'll take care of everything to make sure we deliver your home on time and within budget. 

Project Completion and Sign Off

Before you and your family move into your new home, we will organise a final inspection with the local building authority and hlep you obtain your Code of Compliance to give you independent assurance that your home has been built to the highest standard.
