Hinuera stone is a natural and volcanic stone that is only found in a small settlement in the Waikato, and is named after its place of origin. It has been quarried from the hills of Hinuera since 1893, but has been used on a larger scale since 1954. Hinuera stone is soft and porous material, allowing it to absorb water and moisture.

Hinuera stone is predominantly used as cladding on houses and for other decorative purposes, such as feature walls, fences and entrance ways.

Oamaru natural stone, sometimes referred to as Whitestone is actually a compact and hard form of Limestone, and is quarried out in Weston, near Oamaru in central Otago, New Zealand. Like Hinuera natural stone, Oamaru natural stone is soft and porous material, allowing it to absorb water and moisture.

Oamaru natural stone started to become gain popularity around New Zealand after the mid 1960’s, as it was primarily only used in Oamaru before then.

It is considered a very prestigious stone and has been used on some very iconic building around New Zealand including, The Auckland High Court, Government House, the Christchurch Arts Centre and the Otago University.
