Established in Melbourne in 2010, Mihaly Slocombe is an architecture studio with a growing portfolio of houses, schools, offices and public spaces.

Central to all our work is our relationship with our clients. We listen, ask and collaborate to make sure we deliver on both the big picture and smallest detail.

For us, design doesn’t just happen at the beginning of our process. It continues every step of the way, from our first sketches through to models, working drawings and construction. The result is architecture that belongs to its climate, connects to its function, and captures your aspirations.

Project Phases

We deliver our projects across nine project phases:

Phase 1 - Discovery
We gather necessary information about you and your site, and assist you to articulate a design brief for your project.

Phase 2 - Masterplan
We explore masterplan and feasibility options for your project, and test different strategies for your design brief and project budget. 

Phase 3 - Sketch design
We convert your preferred masterplan into a three dimensional design.

Phase 4 - Town planning
We prepare a submission to your local council for planning consent. 

Phase 5 - Design development
We resolve key elements of your project, including structure, roof drainage and services. 

Phase 6 - Interior design
We resolve the interior of your project, including material palette, fittings, appliances and lighting. 

Phase 7 - Documentation
We prepare technical documents that enable you to obtain a building permit, procure a building contract and build your project. 

Phase 8 - Tendering
We help you obtain a building permit, tender your project and establish a building contract. 

Phase 9 - Construction
We administer the building contract during construction of your project.

“From the first meeting with Mihaly Slocombe I felt confident that this is the company I wanted to work with. And it was a process of ‘working with’ that I was looking to achieve. Time was spent getting a clear picture of what aesthetics I appreciated, my interests, my goals for the space. I felt listened to, was given options and choices throughout the entire process. Throughout the entire build I was kept well informed about the building team and contractors all of which were professional, respectful and kept to a timeline. This project was to build a unit in a very small confined space however any visitor to it is, like me, completely blown away with the expansive sense of space and light when entering. Cleverly designed storage spaces are concealed behind paneled walls giving a streamlined uncluttered environment. A high pitched ceiling with the skylight facing the sky brings the outside in. I could never have envisioned how much this unit could transform our home life, it’s a restful functional, beautiful place that feels expansive, light and calming.”
