Since 1990, the focus of our operations has been on maximising work flow efficiencies and the right environment for our staff. From small beginnings, Paarhammer moved to a new purpose-built 4500m2 facility in 2010 which features the latest in CNC machinery and a spray-painting robot nicknamed Francesco.

Powered by the sun, the Paarhammer factory features an almost 100 kW photo-voltaic solar system to provide electricity, and a state of the art timber recycling system that produces hot water and heating during the cold winter months.

A showroom with a large range of products is awaiting visitors and a spacious training area for trade customers and staff is also in place. We are happy to show prospective clients through our manufacturing facilities (by appointment) so you can see how your future windows and doors are created. See a short 'Client Experience' video.

Paarhammer started in 1990 as Design and Handicraft Furniture in a small rented garage, making fine furniture and European style kitchens. 1991 the business moved to a small factory in the Ballan Industrial Estate and employed their first apprentice. When the founders Tony and Edith Paarhammer started to build their own home, also in 1991, they could not find the energy efficient tilt & turn windows and lift-slide doors they grew up with in Austria. Tony's background included window making, hence this was the start of what should become a successful Australia-wide business venture.

In 1996 it was decided on the name change to 'Paarhammer' - the surname of the owners as a sign that they stand fully behind their products - and the business became a company. Several extensions to the original factory were put on as the business grew.

For the 20th business anniversary in 2010 Paarhammer moved to a large purpose built factory which was extended twice again since and now spans 4500m2, and includes the latest in CNC machinery and even a spray-painting robot. With water, light and waste management and powered by the sun, it is also sustainable.

Many awards were received and new products and product ranges developed. A great team of dedicated and long serving staff manufactures award winning windows and doors for energy efficiency and bushfire safety which are delivered Australia-wide.

After 35 years the company is going from strength to strength and the owners' son Thomas and his partner Sarah have joined the family business to lead it into the future.

With up to 40% of a home’s heating energy lost and up to 87% of its heat gained through windows, improving their thermal performance reduces energy costs and Australia’s greenhouse gas emissions. Careful window selection and placement is also rightly viewed as a means of reducing demand for artificial light and climate control.

The lower the U-value, the better the window. Paarhammer U-values start from a very low 0.8 WERS (Window Energy Rating Scheme).

Windows and doors are rated as a whole, meaning glass and frame together. High performance glazing is not very effective if the window and door frames leak and create a draft. Proper installation is also an important consideration.

Paarhammer products feature up to 7 1/2 Energy Stars, meaning that you can save up to 85% of energy in addition to enjoying a very comfortable indoor climate in your home or at your work place

Our philosophy is about sustainability and local jobs, therefore we use local materials where possible in our products. Australian Made translates to locally made products providing valuable training and skills sharing, and jobs not simply localised to the Paarhammer factory but extending to suppliers and manufacturers, e.g. Australian glass manufacturers and timber suppliers.

As a member of Australian Glass and Windows Association (AGWA) Paarhammer processes and products are tested regularly to ensure products comply with all relevant Australian Standards. The purchaser can therefore be confident that products are made in Australia for Australian conditions.

We are deeply committed to a sustainable future

Products

Choosing timber products can help tackle climate change as timber is a renewable source, and carbon remains locked in wood for the life of the piece of timber. Growing trees absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, emit oxygen and store carbon. About half the dry weight of a tree or wood product is carbon; one ton of carbon represents 3.67 tonnes of carbon dioxide. Also, it takes 5 times more energy to produce aluminium than timber and timber has 2000 times the resistance to heat transfer (U-value) than aluminium.  Read: Sustainability - Carbon Storage

In Australia there are three timber certifications recognised: FSC® (Forest Stewardship Council), Australian Forest Certification Scheme (AFCS), and PEFC (Program for Endorsement of Forest Certification). Paarhammer only uses timber with one of these certifications, is itself FSC®-Chain-of-Custody certified (SCS-COC-001887) and FSC® certified products are available on request.

Most Paarhammer products are supplied with a stained or spray painted finish. We use Adler paints which are especially formulated for longevity on windows and doors. These paints are water based and contain low to very low VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds). The use of low VOC finishes, rather than finishes with higher VOC levels, translates to a reduction in the emissions in your home and a better indoor environment for health and wellbeing. Company

Our new manufacturing facility is just one example of how we aim to keep as low a carbon footprint as possible. Powered by the sun, the Paarhammer factory features an almost 100 kW photo-voltaic solar system to provide electricity.

In addition, the factory is fitted with light management to reduce electricity needs, water tanks for supply to the factory, and waste management where our wood shavings are recycled into wood briquettes that are used to provide hot water and heat to our factory during the winter months, with the rest offered to the public. This reduces landfill by about 2500m3 per year, around the size of an Olympic sized swimming pool.

Paarhammer have also signed up to the Take-2 initiative by Sustainability Victoria, pledging to play our part to assist in the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, to keep the global temperature rise to under two degrees. And we have joined the Australian Builders Declare Climate & Biodiversity Emergency movement as a supplier to the building industry, working towards meeting the needs of our society without breaching the earth’s ecological boundaries.
