Salmond Reed Architects are an award winning multi-disciplinary architectural design, and heritage conservation practice.

Founded in 1993 by the late NZIA Gold Medal recipient Jeremy Salmond. We bring over thirty years’ of nationwide experience and expertise to your project, whether it involves the sensitive adaptation of a character building or the design of a contemporary structure in a sensitive environmental setting (or, indeed, a combination of both.)

Directors Rosalie Stanley, Lloyd Macomber, and Philip Graham, lead a staff of around twenty talented registered architects and graduates, chartered building surveyors, heritage consultants and support staff, all of whom share a resolve to deliver optimum project solutions to meet client aspirations and budgets.

SALMOND REED ARCHITECTS: Contemporary with character.

Services Offered

Salmond Reed provides a full range of our architectural and design services which includes:

Design and Documentation:

  • Concept design
  • High-quality new buildings and structures
  • New buildings and structures in sensitive environmental settings
  • Alterations and additions to existing houses and larger buildings
  • Adaptive reuse
  • Design and documentation for heritage projects

We approach all of our projects with a combination of problem-solving creativity and a sound understanding of traditional construction methods, and modern technologies.

Staff have an in-depth knowledge of traditional building materials and techniques, enabling them to advise on the application of modern architectural conservation practice for older buildings, while our designers also maintain a strong grasp of modern building technologies and materials to bring excellence to our contemporary designs.

Design work at Salmond Reed Architects is always bespoke, contemporary, sophisticated, and always conveys an eye for detail.

Philosophy

While our reputation in preserving New Zealand's architectural heritage is well-document, we also embrace contemporary design with open arms while staying true to our core principles of sustainable reuse, craft, proven materials and techniques, and bespoke design.

At Salmond Reed Architects, every project is moulded from a deep understanding of a site's surrounding environment, built character and the client's vision, before designing in a way that responds and honours those considerations.

This philosophy runs deep in our DNA no matter the project, whether it is a restoration, renovation, adaptive reuse of a heritage building or a contemporary new build.

We work on all scale, ages, and types of buildings which allows us, as a practice to draw on our vast experience and knowledge to make thoughtful bespoke design choices.

We establish good working relationships with our clients and peers and strive to disseminate our expertise through the work we do and through educating others. We are committed to understanding our clients’ needs and to achieving results which go beyond their expectation.

The practice is a member of the New Zealand Institute of Architects (NZIA) and uses their standard documentation and guidelines for all projects.
