Award-Winning 1920's New York City Deli-style meets light industrial kitchen

1920's NYC deli-style meets light industrial Kitchen - The brief for this project was to take the one and only architecturally insensitive alteration to a multi-storied Victorian-era house which was a 1980's kitchen and dining area and transform it into a 1920's New York City deli-style meets light industrial kitchen and eat-in space. The family travelled extensively to NY and a family tradition was to sit at the chef's table in some of the famous eateries in NYC and even do cooking classes that were held within the working kitchens of these restaurants. The love of sharing family holidays in this way was the inspiration behind my design of this kitchen. Another important factor was that it needed to be able to be used for professional caterers to cater for large functions. Hence, the kitchen within a kitchen concept was born. The kitchen features a separate wine/bar/coffee area, a separate walk-in scullery with its own hob, microwaves, sink and dishwasher that is adjacent to the main hob and ovens.

There's great storage throughout which is accessed also by a custom-designed ladder for access to those once a year items we all seem to have in our households! The custom-designed Calacatta stone and steel chef's table is on industrial castors and can be relocated easily according to the needs of the user. Industrial details are found in the steel cable handles on the steel-framed/glazed glass doors, industrial style lighting, clock and accessories. The NYC deli-style is represented in the style of the joinery, eat-in chef's table, new architecturally era-correct ceiling beams (that were added in by me), large custom range hood and fabulous wooden chopping block that is level with the bench. A highly successful response to the client's brief.
