The Macquarie Group purchased the Government Savings Bank of NSW building at 50 Martin Place for re-use as its global headquarters in 2012. This 1928 ten-storey building was occupied by the Commonwealth Bank for eighty years and remains one of the nation’s most significant commercial buildings. The Macquarie Group’s comprehensive refurbishment and adaption for offices were directed by a TKD Architects Conservation Management Plan. TKD Architects also guided the upgrade of the building’s significant interiors facilitating new work designed by JPW Architects. Intrusive work from the 1980s was removed, the spatial qualities of the office interiors regained and historic features re-emerged.
