A contemporary holiday home in Hanmer Springs, designed to maximize stunning mountain and lake views, featuring stepped floor levels, large corner windows, and a harmonious blend of natural timber and stone cladding.
In the historic alpine township of Hanmer Springs, this holiday home offers a stunning retreat from bustling city life for its Christchurch-based owners. The hillside site has picturesque mountainous backdrops and looks down to a popular lake, and to the town centre, so capturing the views were paramount in the design.
Positioned for sun and views, the house incorporates a series of stepped floor levels that flow down the slope, along with extensive use of large unobstructed corner windows and a skewed lower bedroom wing. A blend of natural timber and stonework claddings has provided a sense of balance between the client-desired ‘contemporary’ aesthetic and the council-required ‘alpine village’ feel.
