Inspired by the spirit and charm of the Amazon with a dash of influence from the culinary traditions of the Mediterranean, Amazonita is a refreshing, gastronomic paradise.
“A true sensory experience”
Situated in the new hospitality precinct by the Avon River in Christchurch’s inner city, Izzard Design was engaged to deliver a refreshing social environment, inspired by the Amazon.
The brief was to create a true sensory experience through the concept of a tropically inspired bar with ample space for customers, while still providing a dining experience and a fully operational kitchen.
A spirited approach was applied to the selection of the finishes. The background paint colour, a rich, deep green adds sophistication, with a grounded base note. This is aided by the rustic oak timber flooring, allowing nature to exist within the space.
An abundance of planting and bespoke lighting sits perfectly against the lush fabrics from the James Dunlop Textile range.
Banquette seating features upholstery from James Dunlop range. ‘Rough’ - a velvet in a warm godlen hue and ‘Vienna’ in a deep magenta and dark blue offer a heavy duty construction that can withstand high traffic areas yet is soft to the touch.
‘Zarzuela’ Kashmir (Zepel) is a highly decorative fabric and features in the upholstery under the bar, providing an ornamental feel.
All of these selections allowed the lush tropical pattern of the ‘La Palma’ wall paper (by Mokum) in the ceiling coffers, bar front and other graphic elements to remain balanced.
The outcome being an animated feel between the earth-toned patterns, and the more timeless finishes, resulting in a visual taste of the Amazon spirit.
