About Planning projects

Planning establishes how a development can proceed within the limits of its site and approval pathway. The Master Planning category covers work at the scale of a whole site, where decisions about land use affect what can be designed in later stages. Australian project planning needs to account for the relevant council planning controls and state or territory requirements; these can influence the development footprint before detailed design begins.

Planning

The Renders category covers visualisations, whose level of detail should match the decisions being made. An early image for planning projects may leave finishes unresolved, while a later view may use specified materials. Planning information is easier to assess when the design stage is clear: a master plan can reserve space for future work without resolving each building, and a render can depict a finish that has yet to be approved. Read project descriptions alongside the images to distinguish a proposal from a documented outcome.

Does a render confirm what can be built?

A render is not evidence of planning approval. Check the council-endorsed drawings and any approval conditions before relying on an image for building dimensions or finishes.

What needs checking when development is staged?

Confirm that each stage can operate with the access and services available at that point. Allow for later construction without blocking occupied areas or using land reserved for future work.

What should a visualisation commission include?

Agree on the number of views and revision rounds, along with the image format needed for presentations or printed documents. Specify which drawing revision the visualisation must follow so design changes can be tracked.
