This gorgeous 1930's home had three very small living spaces across the front of the house. These rooms were too small to be practical and prevented entertaining on a larger scale. The brief for this renovation was to create a relaxing TV room and a larger more formal sitting room for entertaining friends and family.

We re-designed the layout of the three rooms, removing a wall and door, adding cavity sliders with lead light glass to add light into the hallway and speak to the existing headlight windows. Another set of cavity sliders was added between the two new rooms to enable flexibility with the use of these rooms, either one larger space for entertaining larger groups or being able to seperate the two spaces for individual use.

Another part of the brief was to specify and source new furniture to complement some of the existing furniture, which was re-used. We combined existing antique pieces with more modern new pieces, including a number of custom designed pieces. A custom designed bar cabinet was designed with reeded dark timber, brass legs and handles and a surprising pop of colour in the interior. Adjustable glass shelves, drawers, mirrored interior back and soft close hinges combine to make this a stunning, much loved piece of furniture.

Another custom designed item is the higher one of the pair of coffee tables, designed to nest above the lower table. It features custom brass inlay, steel legs and solid American ash, stained dark.

Some existing seating pieces were recovered and new pieces were made locally in Auckland. We worked closely with Designers Collection to bring our custom designs to fruition and the quality of their manufacture and service is outstanding.

New window treatments were made, shutters in the bay window and gorgeous textured gold fabric drapes on the pair of French doors. The existing drapes were re-used in the TV Room and were re-hung after a clean to freshen them up.

Our clients are absolutely delighted with the two new rooms, they love the textures and colours and the richness these provide. They also love the functionality of the two spaces and have been enjoying entertaining and using the bar cabinet.

About the
Professional

Nicola Manning Design is an experienced award winning interior design practice offering all a full range of interior design services, from new builds, renovations, apartments, small commercial projects and sourcing beautiful interior products.

We take a "no surprises" approach to our project partnership, with clear communication and a proven design process, focusing on three foundation pillars; the design, the budget and the timeline. We feel so grateful to work with a range of wonderful clients on their homes, apartments, beach houses and commercial properties.

After nearly twenty years in the interior design business, we know great design can not only lift the value of your home, but also enhance the quality and enjoyment of your life. Many people find it difficult to verbalise or explain exactly what they are visualising. Our clients really appreciate that we can take their ideas and help them bring them to fruition.

“I believe your home is not just a financial asset, it should also be your haven. Whether you're building, renovating, downsizing or moving into a different size or style of property, we will help you create beautiful and functional spaces that feel like home”.

We Will:

  • Listen to you and understand what you are wanting to achieve and helping you make it a reality.
  • Present you with a couple of options for you to choose from, rather than having to face the overwhelm of all the choices available on the market.
  • Source products for you that you may not have even realised was available or would be suitable.
  • Be available to answer questions that you or your builder or other tradespeople will have, in a very timely way.
  • Be fully committed to your project and to delivering you the best interior design solutions.
