By Maker Design Studio
We were approached by Tanya Wilkinson, project manager of Auckland War Memorial Museum. Tanya was part of a project team at Auckland Museum working on an exhibition of photography by award-winning New Zealand photographer Olaf Petersen, and they were keen to exhibit some of our lights as part of the display for the photography. They wanted to feature a local designer and manufacturer.
The exhibition contains 65 framed original photographs, 5 large scale murals, a short film about Olaf Petersen, along with digital and physical interactives. As part of the exhibition design the team created a small lounge area where a short film is screened and a book about Petersen and his work is available to read. The exhibition design has a 1950’s aesthetic and the team were interested in using some of our iO flutes in the lounge area as they were perfect for the look they were after. The exhibition will opened in early April 2022 and will run through to February 2023. It may also tour to other venues around the country.
Maker Design Studio is the home of iO lighting. Working in wood, MAKER’s Mat Macmillan developed the iO range to deliver a product of lasting beauty and originality.
Our lights are crafted in Tauranga. Each one is created by hand using natural materials. Stunning alone, or grouped into clusters for impact. You can choose from a variety of standard sizes – or talk to us about a custom size to suit your particular space. Our iO lights are suitable for commercial as well as residential settings and are featured in a wide range of public and private buildings including commercial headquarters, embassies, hotels, conference centres etc. Many of the homes they are in are featured in magazines as winners of Home of the Year competitions.
iO lights bring simple, calm beauty to any setting, emitting a warm glow while adding substance as a beautifully designed object. Made using premium NZ ply sourced from locally grown trees, iO is a thoroughly sustainable New Zealand product.
We are proud to be NZ designed and made and are delighted to be able to have the NZ made logo on our packaging. You can follow our journey on Facebook and Instagram.
