Surrounded by coastal views, ample vegetation and native greenery, Blairgowrie House is a celebration of minimalism, architecture and design on Victoria’s well-known Mornington Peninsula. A project spanning 4 years from start to finish, Blairgowrie House was build and designed inside by Manna Made, who also happen to be the lucky owners of the home. For the building design, they collaborated with Bellhaus Design Office who created a seamless flow between the internal and external spaces.
Designed to emulate a peaceful sanctuary, the design approach of Blairgowrie House was a thoughtful nod to the natural surroundings of its beautiful location, boasting a seamless connection to nature throughout. Using neutral palettes and sustainable materials, including handmade Krause Bricks, the project is described by the design and architectural team as “European Essentialism”.
The owners purposeful design approach is evident in the two-storey home’s generous living spaces, abundant natural light and thoughtful use of natural materials like oak, timber and - of course - brick, utilised as a means to have an “immediate connection to the outdoors”. Not only is there a visual connection to its surroundings, but the home boasts integrated sustainability initiatives including double-glazed windows, hydronic heating, air filtration and use of material offcuts.
The home’s entry facade is adorned with Krause Emperor Bricks in Ghost Grey, complementing the black-stained timber and textured materials on the home’s exterior. Internally, neutral colour palettes exude a contemporary feel while authentically encompassing that pared back, and purposeful design approach the team has achieved.
Elevating a sense of calm, indulgent but considered features of the home like a wood fireplace, heated plunge pool and home automation bring an understated element of luxury to the family home, while the interior furniture, built-in joinery and use of materials bring practicality and warmth.
