Burnt Earth Beach House is a thoughtfully designed, multigenerational home that celebrates the beauty and warmth of terracotta. The exterior bespoke hand torn bricks, floors and joinery elements create a cohesive and inviting atmosphere. This haven provides a seamless connection between its inhabitants, the surrounding landscape, and the Southern Ocean.

The cruciform plan is carefully designed to maximise natural light and breathtaking views. The central kitchen, the heart of the home, is positioned at the intersection of the cross, offering a focal point for gathering and socialising.

Sustainable materials, such as recycled spotted gum flooring and veneer joinery, add a touch of natural beauty and contribute to the home's environmental footprint. The variety of spaces on both levels accommodates both communal activities and private moments, ensuring a comfortable and fulfilling living experience.

This is a brick. Not an ordinary brick. Invented. Its surface torn by hand, infused with glaze applied to its raw clay form, it is a brick in a wall. Not a conventional wall, a wall of a home, specific to place.

Having previously collaborated on groundbreaking projects such as Phoenix Central Park and the Monash University Learning & Teaching Building, architect John Wardle worked closely with Klynton Krause to develop a custom application of Terracotta brickwork specifically for this project.
