Award-winning single-level dwelling featuring open-plan living, high raked ceilings, and versatile spaces for relaxation or rental, maximizing a compact 60sqm footprint.
The California Red won the 2019 BDAA National Second Dwelling design award. It’s a single level, 2 bed, self-contained house with open plan living, extending the home to outdoor decking areas. The design maximises the 60sqm footprint with no wasted space, and features design elements such as high raked ceilings, high level louvre windows, sliding doors to create airflow and breeze.
The client’s brief was to construct a second dwelling that could serve a multi-purpose function (a teenage/adult retreat that could also become an Airbnb or rental). The clients enjoyed it so much, they now occupy the second dwelling instead of the main house.
