Located within its namesake Parkside suburb in Inner West of Sydney, Concord Home makes the most of its humble 303 square metre site. Sitting as modern infill within a highly established street, the dark and moody outer form gives little away as to the open light filled spaces that lie behind the buildings face. Encased in a robust masonry shell, privacy is expressed through minimal inward visibility and a strong emphasis on rear directed views towards the landscaped side, backyard and pool area. The careful and deliberate arrangements of linear stacked forms within the site creates moments of compression and release through a careful balance of solid and void, transparent and stark, built and natural.

The internal palette of the home is grounded by a spectrum of monochromatic greys and warm timber tones; with the intention of it to feel intimate and cocooning, while also being neutral enough to allow for a layer of playful insertions to be incorporated within based on the inhabitant. The combination of natural timbers, stone, brickwork and off form concrete, coupled with soft sweeping curves of the interior walls and lush textures of furnishings adds a depth of texture and relates directly to the idea of the inside seamlessly merging with outside, and visa versa.

This example of architecture is a representation of how every component of the home; internal and external, permanent and temporary, fixed and operable, become just as much part of the architecture as the external shell itself. Meticulously planned, tightly stacked yet generously spaced - Concord house is a small home with big impact.
