The customer had a specific look and functionality in mind that required some thinking outside the circle as far as design and running of the tub. The time frame was tight and the install was complicated but we always like a challenge.
The customer needed to control the tub via any device on wifi, heat the tub within two hours of turning up the temperature, and make the maintenance as simple as possible. We incorporated a gas heater that could be turned off to use the electric element once the tub was up to temperature. As the gas heater was on LPG bottle supply there was always the risk of running out of gas so the electric element heater needed to be an option. The integration of the gas heater as well as the electric element heater was made simple with some manual valves and intricate electrical work.
The tub was collected from our factory and taken to Waikato where it was lifted by helicopter over to the Coromandel site. Once the tub was in place we completed the final plumb up and the tub was running the same day.
We used Ozone gas to assist with sanitation of the pool being a reliable source and incredibly eco friendly.
We used CD-50 clear on the hot tub exterior that will need to be recoated annually as the tub is very exposed to the elements.
The design work was completed using video conferencing from onsite with the builder, electrician, and customer, as the remote location of the job prohibited multiple site visits.
The customer was only interested in hot water without noisy pumps, jets, and flashing lights. We installed a small and very quiet circulation pump to run the tub as efficiently as possible. The client is eventually wanting to go off the grid with electricity using photovoltaic panels. the smaller pump works well with this set up in mind. The small pump with ozone running at set times and combined with minimal sanitizing will keep the tub bacteria-free regardless of use and temperature of the tub. The gas heater also avoids having to use stored electric energy in the future.
We faced a few challenges with this project. Our timing had to be right to ensure the weather was cooperating so the helicopter could lift the tub without any problems. We then had to drive to the Coromandel to meet the tub once it was in place and complete the plumbing.
