This Kitchen needed to be brought back to life. The client wanted to bring the outside in, make the kitchen functional and more suited to their lifestyle. Situated in a little rural but coastal town, surrounded by greenery, the previous kitchen clashed with the surroundings and the home. The clients asked for green cabinetry that complimented the existing elements of the home, and different elements to bring the natural element in.
A wood-look benchtop was a must. The wood enhanced the green, and gave the organic feel the clients were asking for to life. Entertaining is a huge part of the clients life, and creating a space that supported that was key. Producing an open plan kitchen brought the entire living area together to suit the brief. After assessing, the clients found that they spent most of their time at the cooktop which is why we located that in the island, with a ceiling vent above. Placing this here meant that they could communicate with guests easier which is what they really wanted to achieve out of renovating the kitchen. Functionality was the key to getting this kitchen perfect in the clients eyes. We broke the space up into work zones.
All the food storage was kept on the Fridge wall, the Cooking materials kept on the island and cleaning/prep materials on the sink wall. After educating the clients on why this would work for them, we went ahead and did it, adding to the functionality of the space. Sufficient bench space either side of the sink and hob was a requirement for the clients. Where they have been placed has achieved this. Lastly, the clients didn't want the room to feel heavy, especially since their colour palette could lean that way if not designed right.
We made sure to keep all of the Tall and Wall cabinets to one wall in the room, that way we were not producing a claustrophobic space and it felt open like the client wanted. Overall, the space meets the client's brief perfectly. The kitchen reflects all the elements of nature, tying the two together. The kitchen is functional and meets the clients requirements of accommodating well for an entertaining environment.
