Queenstown 2019

A renovation of a 1970’s Lockwood, this is a holiday home for an Auckland family that fills and empties like a breath with the arrival and departure of children. Feathered by a stand of exotic trees, its sharp angles equal voluminous interiors that have been layered and softened with texture. Drawn from the owners’ deep love of ‘home’ and of the importance they place on family, the interior’s materials are selected to age and tell a story alongside its inhabitants. Metals that become imprinted with the marks of preparing dinners, oiled solid oak herringbone floors that describe paths walked and stone that unashamedly holds imperfections. These materials welcome and play with the dappled light. They get more interesting with age as this home, over time, makes memories for its family.

NW Studio is an interior architecture and design practice based in Arrowtown, New Zealand. We have a portfolio of projects ranging from hospitality, hotels and workplaces to select residential and temporary installation work. We are enthusiastic hikers, skiers, yoga practitioners, cooks and gardeners - proudly occupying a heritage-listed cottage in the deep south.

At ArchiPro we recognise and acknowledge the existing, original and ancient connection Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have to the lands and waterways across the Australian continent. We pay our respects to the elders past and present. We commit to working together to build a prosperous and inclusive Australia.
