Manipulating the sense of spaciousness is the epitome of the alteration addition to this inner city Victorian-era terrace duplex. Deft combination of the new elements, the courtyard, the dark-mirror-clad interior, and the tectonics, impresses a perceived spaciousness effortlessly unifying the new and the old.

...the choice of brick was carefully considered. External brick walls are visible from the external laneway facade, but also internally from the windows facing the courtyard. Broader and thinner than usual, (the bricks) are laid in a random pattern to mimic stacked stone, the horizontal grout recessed, exaggerating this dimension and de-emphasizing the vertical. — Tobias Horrocks, Architectureau

Situated adjacent to the laneway is the new double storey addition skinned in random bond pattern brick with flush perpend and raked mortar detailing allowing ones appreciation of the wall as a unison of rich yet subtle textures highlighted by the dappled hues. — James Lyall Smith, the Local Project
