Fletcher LivingLowCO Home

To help New Zealand reach its climate change goals and to influence the way that homes are designed and constructed, the Sustainability Team at Fletcher Living are creating the ‘LowCO’ home, a pilot home project that aims to meet a 1.5˚C future.

The 3-bedroom detached home is located in Waiata Shores in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland and has been designed by a team of passionate industry experts, hoping to meet ambitious carbon and water targets and strive for more sustainable results.

Warmer, drier, and more comfortable

The biggest way to achieve lower carbon homes is to reduce operational carbon – how the home is heated and cooled over its lifetime. At Comfortech®, we strive to create the most comfortable living and working spaces for all New Zealanders, so this is a project that directly aligns with our purpose.

Our team has collaborated with GIB®, and through use of our Pink® Batts® glass wool insulation and STEICO wood fibre external insulation we are able to achieve an energy efficient wall system for the low carbon house. STEICO is designed to protect the home from cold, heat, noise, and moisture.

Every feature in the LowCO home has been carefully designed, considered, and assessed, and although the home at Waiata Shores is a work in progress, there has been plenty learnings from the design phase. These learning are now being applied to new low carbon terrace homes that will begin construction at Waiata Shores in 2023, ensuring its occupants will be warm, dry, more comfortable and with less bills to pay for many years to come.
