Glen Waverley House

Project Brief

Following the birth of their second child, the young family approached us for a comfortable and outstanding alteration to their existing house in Glen Waverley.

As caring parents, the layout was required to be functional and practical so that the home fits the well-being of their growing children. Occasionally their elderly parents would visit their home for a short stay, which requires sufficient rooms that are able to comfortably cater to the large family in a relatively small subdivided land.

On the other hand, being a young adults, they also desire to live in a modern architecture design house given the beautiful block of land.

Design Solutions

Pristinely located in the family-friendly suburb, this light-filled house was extended to the rear and above for a second storey for a generous habitable area. On the ground floor, it comprises a Bedroom attached with an Ensuite, Powder Room, Laundry Room, an open layout Living Dining and Kitchen that opens to an all-white minimalist Verandah, decking, and rear garden. A large dining area was provided so that the dining area can accommodate 10 people while at the same time maintaining a comfortable walkway during mealtime.

On the first floor, a versatile family room and study room was orientated to the East. The rooms were provided with privacy for a quiet study while on the other hand, the large room provides safe and adequate space for children’s room.

Externally cladded with Colorbond steel matt as the main external cladding and concrete render finishes. The site located in the inner section provides an opportunity to incorporate a flat roof, promoting simplicity of forms and sleek design. Extensive full height windows installed on North and East facing allow ample natural sunlight.

This overall design achieves a timeless façade with durable materials and transformed into a comfortable generous home to a family of 4-6 members.
