The Glendowie House project was an absolute pleasure to build. Probably my favourite build in my 39 years of building.
The design brief from the clients to the architect was a mid-century design on a single level, so house two at the rear retained its sea view. The choice of materials chosen by the clients was perfect for the build, with thousands of meters of cedar weatherboards and sarking used to get an incredible result.
To keep the mid-century design throughout, a hand-chosen and laid sandstone wall running the entire length of the house sets it off perfectly along with the mahogany internal doors and kitchen and shag pile carpet in the lounge.
Another very important part of the brief was the house needed to be built around a large olive tree the clients had already bought that was to be craned into the courtyard at the end.
The attention to detail with this build was required from day one, with the home built on 3 levels, including a sunken lounge. Small details like making sure the cedar ceiling sarking lined perfectly with the soffit sarking so when the clients laid in bed, everything lined through spot on. So ensuring every aspect of the build lined up perfectly was important, more so than any project we had done before.
To top it off, we had the most incredible clients that were an absolute pleasure to build for.
