Retaining its old-world charm, a Mediterranean style home in the beautiful beachside suburb of Cottesloe, Perth Australia has had an extensive interior renovation to modernise the interior spaces while still retaining some of the traditional charm.
Formerly owned by Perth artist and ceramicist Anna Chandler, who is well known for her strong use of colour - the house was no exception. The new homeowners - a family of five, opened up the floor plan to create an indoor/outdoor connection wrapping around the updated pool area for a unified design. Interior Designer Emma Mackie from M Interiors worked closely with the client to create a bold palette of colour and pattern paired with natural earthy elements like timber and concrete for some balance and relief.
The inspiration for the design was to pay homage to the home’s heritage. Statement La Palma wallpaper by Catherine Martin for Mokum creates a focal point in the lounge area while elegant sheer curtains in James Dunlop Laconia Air in a stunning green hue highlight the dining room windows and complement the lush gardens beyond. Laconia Air is a 100% wide width linen that provides an elegant and softness at the window.
The resulting renovation has given life back to a home that can be enjoyed by all the family.

We’ve developed a deep-seated knowledge of interior textiles in our 110-year history. We’re interested in different ways of living, and we’re constantly exploring what fabrics can bring to people’s lives. And life has always informed what we do.
We believe in fabrics that have a unique viewpoint, born from a curiosity about the world. Fabrics with a sense of purpose. Fabrics that are crafted with passion, and embrace the lives spent on and around them. Fabric that spans trends, generations and cultures. The fabric of life.
