The very simple geometrical form has been punched in and out to create different spaces and uses. A small pop-out creates the entry.
The kitchen sits beneath a mezzanine study and children's play area.
The open-plan living and dining area opens out to a decked area facing the bay.
A cathedral-like gabled window draws light into the interior and frames the neighbouring bush-clad hill.
The timber window frames pop out of the house to create deep sills above a bathtub, highlighting the sensational view over Governors Bay.
Despite being sited above a suburban development, there are no visible neighbours, giving this retreat-like family home a sense of isolation.
The timber staircase to the mezzanine adds to the house's overall sense of openness.
The entry and mudroom.
The mezzanine space is designed for study and play, drawing in light through openable skylights and the full-height gable window at the other end.
The suspended balcony takes in the panoramic view as it extends down the length of the building.
The lofty interior is enhanced by warm wood and glass, imbuing the spaces with a golden glow.
Nestled into the hillside, the form and layout of the house works with the slope and contour of the hill.
