LIVING IN PERFECT HARMONY

Increasingly, developers and homeowners are looking for fresh ways to seamlessly blend new buildings with the surrounding landscape. For one Queenstown family, it’s an outlook that’s struck the right chord.

Jack’s Point is a 1200-hectare settlement in one of the most spectacular landscapes in the world - on the shores of Lake Wakatipu, just 20 minutes outside Queenstown.

It’s here that Jenny and Murray Butler entrusted Mark Gray of Queenstown firm Wyatt & Gray Architects to design their 4 bedroom, 270 square metre holiday home around three distinct living modules with three prominent gabled roofs.

“As a premium residential neighbourhood, Jack’s Point has tightly defined guidelines in respect of material build and general aesthetics,” says Mark Gray.

“The developers, understandably, have been keen that any new builds on the estate are generally sympathetic to the immediate environment. It’s very much a case of harmoniously blending in, rather than actively standing out.”

To achieve this aesthetic, both the architect and homeowners agreed on a COLORSTEEL® Alpine Tray profile, prepainted in the popular Ironsand colour.

Murray Butler is completely at home with options they went with.

“We love the steepness of the gabled roofs and the Colorsteel® Alpine Tray profile with the gun metal grey of Ironsand makes for a very clean, unfussy finish.”

“We’ve lived in Queenstown before, gone away and been drawn back, so we wanted to create something that would endure. The views are out of this world and the way Mark and his team have oriented the home on the site allows for lots of natural light through the day.”

Durability and sustainable good looks were guiding factors in the roofing choice made by the owners and architect. Their approach is clearly one that other Jack’s Point residents agree with too. Everywhere you look, Colorsteel® roofing and Ironsand pop up as preferred choices.

For Mark Gray, the design decisions are ones he’d be happy to return to.

“The simple, uncomplicated lines of Colorsteel® are a perfect complement to our rural landscapes. The fact that the product is made here in New Zealand with specific regard to the unique complexities of our climatic conditions is all the better.”

Through it all, the Butlers are the proud owners of a beautifully-appointed home that is very much part of the location it rests within. Which, for them, will make for many relaxing holidays ahead.
