The facility, which has the capacity to host international events, as well as local club meets, includes a 50m FINA World Championship/Olympic-sized pool that can be divided into two 25 metre competition pools using a movable bulkhead. It also has a separate 25m learn to swim area, and single and double hydrotherapy pools. There is enough permanent seating to fit 888 spectators and temporary seating for 1662.

To meet the standards required to host major international events, two camera platforms have been installed for international media teams, as well as timekeeping equipment by Swiss Timing, and electronically linked blocks.

In their brief, the Hawke’s Bay Community Fitness Centre Trust (HBCFCT) wanted the world-class facility to be accessible for all. This has seen the fit out include an accessible ramp in the learn to swim area; the installation of a pool pod, which was imported from Scotland; and hoists to assist people with changing and getting into the pools.

Sustainability was another major consideration with the centre designed using renewable aggregates and other building materials with a low carbon footprint; low power consumption LED lighting; high quality insulation; and space for solar panels to be installed.

Hazel Redmond — Architectural & Commercial Photographer

I am a highly experienced commercial and architectural photographer. I have collaborated with leading architects and brands across New Zealand and relish the challenge of representing their work in the very best possible light.

I am based in Hawke’s Bay but travel extensively across both islands. Capturing images that draw the viewer inside the subject is an endless source of fascination for me, and there is nothing I enjoy more than meeting new clients and seeing how we can work together.

At ArchiPro we recognise and acknowledge the existing, original and ancient connection Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have to the lands and waterways across the Australian continent. We pay our respects to the elders past and present. We commit to working together to build a prosperous and inclusive Australia.
