Extensive refurbishment of a heritage-listed Art Deco mixed-use terrace in Surry Hills, featuring restoration of original elements and modern upgrades, completed in 2019 to revitalize the building while preserving its historical character.
This project involved the extensive refurbishment of a heritage-listed mixed-use terrace, originally constructed circa 1920, located in the bustling heart of Crown Street, Surry Hills. Working within a high-traffic urban environment, our team managed complex access requirements, including the installation of scaffolding over the public footpath to safely facilitate works.
The project scope under a Development Application (DA) included significant heritage conservation works:
- Restoration and reinstatement of original timber windows and doors
- Structural lintel replacements
- Full roof replacement
- External façade render repairs and repainting in accordance with heritage guidelines
Internally, the building underwent a complete transformation, including:
- The remodelling of multiple two-bedroom residential apartments
- Upgrades to common areas and storage facilities
- A modern refurbishment of the existing commercial tenancy space
This comprehensive remedial project required careful planning, heritage sensitivity, and proactive stakeholder management to revitalise a historic building while preserving its character for future generations.
