This kitchen is the ‘something special’ our clients requested as part of renovations to their existing home. Situated centrally in the home as part of an open plan kitchen / dining space, the room flows out onto a north-west facing outdoor entertaining area. As a young social couple who like to entertain, the kitchen needed to be spacious and inviting while being an exciting industrial-style show piece. Function and flow were incredibly important as the client is a chef, with her kitchen being ‘her life’. A practical kitchen with smart storage solutions and plenty of bench space was required, and easy clean finishes were a must.
The large Smeg Victoria cooker sets the scene, with the dramatic black continued through into the melamine cabinetry panels, box rangehood and the magnetic chalkboard splashback. Bestwood’s Treble Beech was used for the cabinetry fronts to give the kitchen interest and texture, while enhancing the industrial style with the look and character of weathered timber. Both pantries were fitted with Blum Tandembox inner drawers to give accessibility and corner storage mechanisms provide a cost-effective solution to tricky corner storage. A custom steel frame features as the framework for the open shelves which display some of the client’s favourite cook books. Wide black handles complete the look and give the kitchen a sense of solidity.
