ARAL was commissioned in 2016 by Auckland Council (on behalf of Auckland Transport) to undertake the civil and infrastructure engineering design for the proposed streetscape upgrade of Hurstmere Road in Takapuna.

The project involves a major public realm redevelopment which will transform Hurstmere Road, the hub of the Takapuna shopping and entertainment precinct into a more vibrant and pedestrian friendly environment which will have an important impact on local businesses and is a key element of the proposed urban redevelopment planned by Auckland Council and Panuku in central Takapuna, being part of the “Unlock Takapuna” vision.

Hurstmere Road has a variety of independently owned retail, cafes and restaurants. The concept plan devised in 2014 proposes a fresh upgrade to the streetscape in order to attract more business and appeal to this central Takapuna location.

Healthy Waters in conjunction with Panuku Development are both Auckland Council run organisations and are both concerned with ensuring this project adheres to WSD and environmental criteria as well as tying in an aesthetic appeal.
