IYU Soccer Pavilion

Achievements Dynamic facade with an abstract brick pattern Central Social space with spectator viewing across both soccer fields The new soccer pavilion at the IYU Recreation Reserve features an active facade that stretches playfully along the length of two premier soccer fields. The social space is positioned centrally along the fields to maximise spectator viewing and connectivity to both east and west soccer fields,  whilst taking advantage of natural light through its full height glazed facade. The central social space allows clear views across both soccer pitches whilst providing protected platforms with its floating roof projecting out towards the fields. The pavilion encourages activity to all edges with access to change room facilities, social space and kitchen serveries along both sides of the building. Sustainable features are present throughout the facility including recycled water for irrigation and water closets, hard wearing low maintenance materials, cross ventilation through high-level windows and the use of low E, double glazed windows throughout.  In addition, the floor plan provides flexibility, through openable change rooms to create larger spaces for other functional uses. “An active facade stretching across the length of the soccer fields with maximised central viewing.” Sustainability Initiatives IYU Soccer stadium addresses sustainability at the core of the design concept. Significant initiatives include: Natural lighting is evident in all areas of the building, with the use of light wells that provides lighting to internal spaces Shading to glass areas also provides covered viewing areas over the oval Cross Ventilation to all main spaces to minimise mechanical requirements Natural ventilation to change rooms and amenities (more than 90% of the footprint) Flexible planning options enable change rooms to be opened up into larger more flexible spaces Views and connections between pavilion and fields maximised Connectivity of internal and external spaces Thermal mass in all areas whilst also providing a highly durable surface internally Low E double glazing throughout Water harvesting system on site creates recycling water opportunities High-efficiency water fixtures and fittings Low VOC paints Gas 5-star instantaneous hot water systems – only operational when required Durable materials with low maintenance and long life Bike rack installation LED lighting with sensor control Building management system "The pavilion encourages activity to all edges with access to change room facilities, social space and kitchen serveries along both sides of the building."
