Award-winning home in Kaiteriteri, seamlessly integrating natural materials and preserving old-growth evergreens while maximizing breathtaking views of the Tasman Sea and the surrounding landscape.
Working on a stunning site perched on a hill overlooking the Tasman Sea and bordering The Abel Tasman National Park, here our aim was to capitalise on the views and follow the topography of the land while preserving as many of the old-growth evergreens as possible. Despite the difficult terrain posing major challenges involving architectural and structural designs, here we were able to set a new benchmark integrating natural design into typically no-build environments. Like materials such as wood, stone and granite were carefully used to blend the context of site and building and there was a real focus on maximising the daylight and sweeping views.
In addition to being a 2010 Nelson Marlborough Architecture Award Winner, this internationally acclaimed home is a perfect example of how architecture works for the site as much as the site works for the architecture.
