Kinloch Retreat

The Kinloch Retreat is located in the new Sevens Oaks Subdivision, Kinloch, Taupō.
The main house is made up of two forms which appear to be carved out of the hillside. A two-storey box houses the living, bedroom and bathroom spaces, and a one-storey kitchen / dining pavilion is angled to frame and connect to Lake Taupō beyond.
External materials are durable and in keeping with the vernacular, while the interior palette creates a sense of refuge from the sometimes harsh, climatic conditions.
Planning is organised around a central outdoor courtyard space, which acts as the social hub of the retreat. Living spaces radiate around this courtyard, capturing views to the lake beyond.
