Built on a steep section with complex soil types, this distinctive design effortlessly blurs the line between building and landscape. With a combination of cedar & aluminum, the black colorway matches it’s robust & timeless materials. With picturesque backdrops of Great Barrier Island, Coromandel Peninsula and Omaha Bay, this home is not short of a view. Particular focus was paid to the custom-made feature cedar shutters and clerestory windows, which were key architectural features of this design.

This Client's brief specified the importance of future proofing as they wish to retire in this home. The main focus for the client was ease of access from a level entry into the garage with direct access to the living area. The clients also wanted to ensure with their design that they always had access to outdoor living spaces that were sheltered from the wind regardless of the direction.

Along with functionality, the clients had a vision for what design features they wanted to highlight. Using the Pohutukawa as a focal point, the clients installed lighting to create an evening presence and feature. They wanted a full height, built in library on display in the living space, and use reflective materials to subtly reflect the surrounding environment, from joinery placement through to the kitchen splashback.
