For the Lockerbie Retirement Village in Morrinsville, MPAD provided master planning and detailed landscape design for the retirement units and central community pavilion to achieve a cohesive and elegant design for the site.

For this development, MPAD’s landscape architects were required to create a design that would allow for visual coherency while not seeming repetitive. The use of low-level planting and mature vegetation in selected areas, created a homogenous design that needed little maintenance. Private garden beds were also proposed to allow residents to contribute to the village’s overall appearance, while providing for visual variety at the same time. For the Central Pavilion, MPAD created a design that worked seamlessly with the built form to facilitate both large and intimate gatherings while creating a fitting centre piece for the retirement village overall. Low hedging and feature trees paired with high quality surface finishes gave the design a sense of formality without being inflexible in its uses. Clear and concise way finding was implemented around the Pavilion to allow users to access the space via multiple access routes across the retirement village.
